Teaching Positions

The Ethnic Studies Department at St. Cloud State University is seeking to create a pool of professionals who qualify to teach, as adjunct instructors, introductory courses in African American, American Indian, Asian American, Chicano/a and Ethnic Studies.

These positions require a minimum of a Master’s degree in the field or a cognate area. An earned doctorate or advanced doctoral studies as well as prior teaching experience in the field are preferred.

Ethnic Studies Positions

 

Introduction to African American Studies

Responsibilities: To teach an interdisciplinary course about current and historical issues facing U.S. citizens of African descent, including issues such as economics, health, education, politics, the criminal justice system, the performing arts, and pan-Africanism. Adjunct lecturers are required to work with students in class and to hold office hours (outside of the scheduled class times) to answer students' questions and comments.  Adjunct lecturers must follow departmental curriculum.

Qualifications:  A minimum of a Master's Degree in African American Studies, Ethnic Studies, Sociology, History, Education, Anthropology or a related field is required.  Prefer prior African American Studies or Ethnic Studies teaching experience. Must demonstrate a good understanding of the history, culture, and experiences of African Americans.

Introduction to Asian American Studies

Responsibilities:  To teach the Introduction to Asian American Studies course, which examines the historical and current experiences of Asian Americans in the United States.  The course must provide students a thorough understanding of race, racism, institutional discrimination, race as a social construct, assimilation, racial oppression, and other related racial issues concepts in the U.S.  Adjunct lecturers are required to work with students in class and to hold office hours (outside of the scheduled class times) to answer students' questions and comments.  Adjunct lecturers must follow departmental curriculum.

Qualifications:  A minimum of a Master's Degree in Asian American Studies, Ethnic Studies, Sociology, History, Education, Anthropology or a related field is required.  Prefer prior Asian American Studies or Ethnic Studies teaching experience. Must demonstrate a good understanding of the history, culture, and experiences of Asian Americans in comparison to U.S. communities of color.

Introduction to American Indian Studies

Responsibilities:  Teach an Introduction to American Indian Studies course, with a focus on the histories, treaties, sovereignty and current experiences of American Indians in the United States.  In addition, the course must provide students a thorough understanding of race, racism, institutional discrimination, race as a social construct, assimilation, racial oppression, and other related racial issues concepts in the U.S.  Adjunct lecturers are required to work with students in class and to hold office hours (outside of the scheduled class times) to answer students’ questions and comments.  Adjunct lecturers must follow departmental curriculum.

Qualifications:  A minimum of a Master’s Degree in American Indian Studies, Ethnic Studies, Sociology, History, Education, Anthropology or a related field is required.  Prefer prior American Indian Studies or Ethnic Studies teaching experience.

Introduction to Chicano/a Studies

Responsibilities:  To teach the Introduction to Chicano and Chicana Studies course, which examines the history and experience of Chicanos and provides students a thorough understanding of race, oppression and other related racial issues concepts in the U.S.  Adjunct lecturers are required to work with students in class and to hold office hours (outside of the scheduled class times) to answer students' questions and comments. Adjunct lecturers must also prepare a course syllabus that provides students with course guidelines, assigned readings, assignments, learning outcomes and grading criteria.

Qualifications:  A minimum of a Master's Degree in Chicano/a Studies, Ethnic Studies, Sociology, History, Education, Psychology and/or Counseling or a related field is required. Prefer prior Chicano Studies or Ethnic Studies teaching experience. Must demonstrate a good understanding of the history, culture, and experiences of Chicanos and be knowledgeable about the major social and political issues that affect the Chicano population.

Introduction to Ethnic Studies

Responsibilities:  To teach an introductory–level courses in Ethnic Studies. This course provides an overview of the social, historical, and cultural experiences of ethnic and racial groups in the United States, specifically African-Americans, American Indians, Asian-Americans, and Latinos.
It also presents a thorough understanding of race as a social construct, racism, institutional discrimination, assimilation, racial oppression and other related racial issues concepts in the U.S. 

Qualifications:  While the Ph. D. or other earned doctorate is preferred, a master's degree in an appropriate field is required. Demonstrated knowledge of African American, American Indian, Latino and/or Asian American studies; knowledge of public and social forces affecting racial and ethnic groups.  These can be demonstrated by training, prior teaching experience, work in curriculum development, earned degree(s), area of specialization, research areas, and publications.  Candidates with strong teaching credentials and evidence of successful teaching will have an advantage. 

Gerontology Positions

The Gerontology Program in the Department of Community Studies at St. Cloud State University is seeking adjunct pool candidates for the possibility of teaching one or more of the following courses: Introduction to Gerontology; Aging Policy; Dementia; Housing; Diversity and Aging; Health and Aging; Gender and Aging; Elder Law and other aging-related specialty topics. 

Minimum requirements: Masters in Gerontology or related field. College-level teaching experience preferred. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds. Global Studies Positions

Responsibilities: The Global Studies Program in the Center for Global Studies at St. Cloud State University is seeking adjunct pool candidates for the possibility of teaching one or more of the following courses: Global Society and Citizenship and Senior Seminar in Global Studies. Currently, we are seeking applicants to teach an interdisciplinary course about understanding the development of global society through exploration of the concepts and practices of global citizenship. Adjunct lecturers are required to work with students in class and to hold office hours (outside of the scheduled class times) to answer students' questions and comments.

Qualifications: A minimum of a Master's Degree in International Studies, Global Studies, or a related field is required. Prefer prior Global Studies or International Studies teaching experience. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds.
