The EVOC, PIT and Night PIT meet and exceed the minimum standards established by the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board.
Courses are open to licensed Law Enforcement officers, reserve officers, non-sworn officers or those studying Law Enforcement through a partnering school. Departmental permission is required and a Hold Harmless agreement must be on file for all courses.
Law Enforcement-Licensed (EVOC) 8 am – 4 pm, 8 post credits: Courses are held year around, 1.5 hours classroom and 6.5 hours in vehicle. Exercises include: 
Pursuit Intervention Tactics (PIT) 8 am – 4 pm, 8 post credits: Courses are held April–October, 1.5 hours classroom and 6.5 hours in vehicle. Officers will use the MHSRC's custom designed vehicles to ensure safety. Upon completion, officer will be capable of maneuvering a suspect vehicle to a specific targeted point, relative to the roadway, when a driver refuses to stop.
Prerequisites:
Participants must be licensed officers.
Officers must have been EVOC certified at the MHSRC within the past 5 years.
In addition to the mandate requirements, this course also covers two major areas:
Each officer will work from basic pacing techniques up to and including the full PIT maneuver. Officers will experience this technique both from the officers' position as well as driving and riding in the fleeing vehicle.
Night PIT (PIT and EVOC refresher) 3 pm – 11 pm, 8 post credits: Courses are held in the Spring and Fall, 1.5 hours classroom and 6.5 hours in vehicle. This is the EVOC Course with heavier emphasis on PIT and takes place at night, when most PITs happen. Exercises include:

Officers must have been certified a PIT or had a PIT refresher at the MHSRC within the past 5 years.
Advanced Driving Skills (ADS) for Non-Sworn Law Enforcement: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm: Courses are 1.5 hours classroom and 5.5 hours of in vehicle. Designed for law enforcement professionals who respond to non-emergency calls. Officers responding to emergency calls should take the EVOC course. Exercises include:
On-Duty Ride Along for Law Enforcement 1 post credit per two hour session:
Do you have an officer who is having problems that are not covered in our regular courses? The MHSRC certified instructors will come to your location, on any shift, and ride along with your officer. Instruction will be offered to help the officer, on their normal patrol, regarding safe driving issues. You will have the option of a written evaluation, following the ride along. This one-on-one evaluation will educate officers, who are experiencing driving difficulties or have high accident rates. Rates are hourly starting from the time the instructor leaves the MHSRC and ending when they return to the MHSRC. Contact us to schedule.
Emergency Snowmobile Operator for Law Enforcement 8 am – 4 pm, 8 post credits: Course is 2 hours of classroom and 6 hours of hands-on driving and is only offered once a year. Officers should bring their own snowmobile or call us to prearrange one.
Exercises include:
Pre-Licensed Law Enforcement (EVOC): Participants in this 2 day, 16 hour program must be sponsored by a partnering school. They will be evaluated with written and a behind the wheel testing to ensure that they meet and exceed the minimum standards established by the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board.
Emergency ATV Operator Training for Law Enforcement 8:00 am – 4 pm, 8 post credits: Course is 2 hours of classroom and 6 hours of hands-on driving and is only offered once a year. Officers should bring their own ATV or call us to prearrange one. Exercises include:
