DIP classes are non-threatening, interactive, and very informative. There are no written or in vehicle tests nor will students be asked to read aloud from any materials. Classes are offered throughout the state of Minnesota.
55+ Driver Improvement Program Initial:
DIP 8 hour schedules
This class is 8 hours of classroom instruction. Driver safety, confidence, and comfort are enhanced by utilizing the most up-to-date research in the field, including the latest visual scanning and steering techniques, anti-lock braking (ABS) skills, airbag information, round-a-bouts, traffic laws and new vehicle technology.
55+ Driver Improvement Program Refresher:
DIP 4 hour schedules
This refresher class is 4 hours of classroom instruction for anyone who has completed an 8 hour course. It is needed every three years to remain eligible for the 10% auto insurance discount.
Driver Improvement Program Violator/Defensive Driver:
DIP 8 hour schedules
This 8 hour course has instruction in the following:
- Communication in Traffic Situations
- Maintaining a Margin of Safety Around Your Vehicle
- Handling Driving Emergencies
- Maintaining Your Vehicle
- Visual Scanning & Steering Techniques
- Anti-lock Braking (ABS) Skills
- Airbag Information
- New Vehicle Technology
- Making Responsible Decisions Regarding Alcohol, Fatigue and Emotions
