This program is targeted at reducing the number, and severity of crashes involving young inexperienced drivers. Traffic crashes are a leading cause of fatalities and serious injuries for many inexperienced drivers.  In Minnesota, they are the leading cause of fatalities for teens, 15-17.  This course targets some of the causal factors relating to these serious injury and fatal crashes. The course will engage both parents and  young drivers.  After a brief classroom presentation, young drivers will be coached and challenged with maneuvers that target:

  • off road recovery
  • collision avoidance
  • hazard recognition
  • skid control in a controlled environment

ParentsWhile the young drivers are performing advanced driving maneuvers, parents have the opportunity to attend a classroom “parent awareness” session. This provides the parent a better understanding of the challenges young drivers face, increases awareness of related laws, as well as, provides additional resources to parents.  Finally, parents have the opportunity to observe their young driver performing some of the challenging maneuvers.
