Community Psychology

St. Cloud State University (SCSU) and Anoka-Ramsey Community College (ARCC) have created an educational partnership that makes it easy to earn a four-year degree in Community Psychology (CPSY) on the ARCC campus.

The program is flexible so that you may complete the A.A. and B.S. on the ARCC campus by working on the A.A. and B.S. degree simultaneously or entering the B.S. program after completing you’re A.A. degree.

B.S. or B.E.S. Community Psychology & B.S. Chemical Dependency

 

What is Community Psychology?

  • Community Psychology is an application of psychology.
  • Community Psychology examines mental and behavioral health and relationships within the context of a person’s needs, abilities, community resources and opportunities.

How is a B.S. or B.E.S. in Community Psychology different from a B.A. in Psychology?

The major difference between the two is the concentration of the courses.  The Community Psychology program emphasizes experiential learning to develop skills in the fields of:

  • Behavior Analysis
  • Counseling
  • Chemical Dependency
  • Family Dynamics

What can I do with this degree?

Students are prepared for entry level practitioner positions in settings such as:

  • Schools
  • Child care facilities
  • Human services agencies
  • Corporations
  • Group Homes
  • Half-way houses
  • Private and Public mental health facilities

Students can also apply for graduate degrees in counseling or professional psychology programs such as:

  • Community Counseling
  • Behavior Analysis
  • School Counseling
  • Marriage and Family Therapy
  • Rehabilitation Counseling
  • College Counseling & Student Development

What is the Chemical Dependency program?

  • Builds on Community Psychology major
  • Course material specific to chemical dependency issues
  • Experiential learning through extensive internship opportunities

What can I do with this degree?

Graduating students can become licensed chemical dependency counselors.  This licensure can lead to career opportunities in chemical dependency treatment/educational centers found in:

  • Public and private hospitals
  • Community Mental health centers
  • Post-Secondary Schools
  • For profit and nonprofit treatment centers

This degree also leads students toward graduate degrees in a variety of counseling or professional psychology programs.
