H1N1 is here St. Cloud State has a number of cases of influenza-like illness consistent with H1N1, according to Brent Nielsen, physician and medical director of Student Health Services at St. Cloud State University. Nielsen and director Corie Beckermann encourage students to self-isolate if they develop flu-like symptoms, which are defined as fever greater than 100 and a cough or sore throat. Student Health Services is following U.S. Centers for Disease Control recommendations on H1N1, according to Nielsen. Nielsen recommends that faculty, staff and students plan for absenteeism, be flexible and communicate clearly about flu-like illnesses. Seasonal flu vaccine is available now. A vaccine for H1N1 is expected in November. Whether you live outside St. Cloud or outside the United States, all SCSU Online students should develop a personal flu plan. The latest information about flu at SCSU is at stcloudstate.edu/emergency.
