Watercolor Painging

Meet Your Presenter:

Janice Courtney Fitch is a nationally known artist and instructor. Her paintings have been exhibited by selected galleries in Oklahoma, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, and Minnesota. With a master's in painting from New Mexico State University, it's clear Janice has had a lifelong interest in perfecting her own techniques. And now, as an experienced art instructor, Janice wishes to share her expertise and knowledge with others interested in perfecting their own techniques.

Watercolor Painting I

Overview:

Over the course of six weeks, this program demystifies the use of pigment, paper, and brush manipulation of watercolor painting. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the use of a limited palette and how to create the colors they desire. During the program participants will actually practice and perfect their techniques.

Program Highlights:

  • Session 1: Introduction to materials, papers, brushes, etc.; wash techniques; textures.
  • Session 2: Still life with discussion of values (lights/darks).
  • Session 3: Color theory; make block chart w/ paints
  • Session 4: Perspective; landscapes/natures
  • Session 5: Figure in watercolor
  • Session 6: Open subject; individual assistance

Results of the Workshop:

This program will help to build the painting skills and confidence of every level of participant with a greater knowledge of the medium of watercolor.

Preparation for the Program:

A materials list will be supplied to you upon registration (along with suggested retailers). Approximate cost of the materials to be purchased beforehand for this class is $50.

Watercolor Painting II

Overview:

Participants will gain a deeper understanding of use of an extended pallet as compared to the limited beginner's pallet. During the workshop participants will practice and perfect their techniques.

Program Highlights:

The two days of painting lessons will help participants develop their watercolor painting skills through exercises in color theory, design, and composition. Individual needs in painting will be addressed as well. Group critiques will aid in each to share and to have their work discussed by the instructor.

Results of the Workshop:

This program will help to build the painting skills and confidence of participants with a greater knowledge of the medium of watercolor.

Preparation for the Program:

Approximate cost of materials for this class is $50. Materials need to be acquired by the student prior to the first day of class. A materials list will be supplied to you upon registration (along with suggested retailers).

Painting in Munsinger Gardens

Overview:

Participants will gain a deeper understanding on the use of a limited pallet and how to create the colors they desire. During the program participants will actually participate and perfect their technique.

Program Highlights:

  • Participants will utilize the beauty of Munsinger Gardens and illuminate it though the use of pigment, paper, and brush manipulation of watercolor painting.
  • Participants will gain a deeper understanding on the use of a limited pallet and how to create the colors they desire.
  • Participants will practice and perfect their techniques.
  • Participants will build on their abilities and have assistance in the areas they need help with.

Results of the Workshop:

This program will help to build the painting skills and confidence of participants with a greater knowledge of the medium of watercolor.

Preparation for the Program:

Participants are asked to bring a stool or folding chair to sit on in the gardens while painting as none will be provided. Participants are also asked to bring a small spray bottle with water and additional water in an enclosed container.

Materials need to be acquired by the student prior to the first day of class. A materials list will be supplied to you upon registration (along with suggested retailers). Approximate cost of materials for this class is $50.
