The G.R. Herberger College of Business and Center for Continuing Studies at St. Cloud State University is pleased to offer programs in management, supervision and leadership. These workshops and certificate programs are designed to improve Minnesota businesses by training managers and supervisors in the latest techniques of employee management.

 

 

Corporate Education/Customized Training

 

The Center for Continuing Studies invites inquiries from business, industry and public agencies and institutions throughout the state of Minnesota about developing additional programs in. management, supervision and leadership, stress management, and other specific programs that would improve the efficiency and performance of employees. Our instructors are experienced in customizing training and educational needs. Certificate Requirements: While students may enter a certificate at any point and take an), of the courses outlined below, to earn a certificate they must attend all of the classes and complete all assignments and exams with at least a 70%. (Formal grades will not be issued for any of these non-credit classes.)

 

These programs and workshops are non-credit courses intended for anyone who wants to upgrade their skills in the practical aspects and applications of the techniques covered. They are not applicable to any degree programs at SCSU. They are designed especially for the businesses that want to improve the skills of their employees who wish to move into management and supervisory positions. They do not require formal admission to SCSU.


Certificate in Organizational Leadership:

The Art of Influence - Leading, Managing and Reducing Conflict in Organizations 1.8 CEUs 3-6 hour sessions

 

Purpose

This series will develop basic leadership skills and prepare employees for leadership positions. It centers on skill development through the use of adult learning techniques such as self-assessment, descriptions and demonstrations of correct behavior/actions, observation of models of correct behavior and skills used correctly, role-playing, feedback and assignments that can be employed on the job. The instruction emphasizes the transfer of skills to a specific situation. Sessions will include the application of skills through group activities.

 

The Instructor:

Dr. Richard Sebastian, a professor of management at St. Cloud State University for more than 15 years, has extensive experience working with business and industry to design programs to improve employee productivity through effective management and supervision.

 

Leading Toward Accountability (.6 CEUS)

•  Using The Leader's Window as a text and guide, develop an under standing of individual leadership skills and how to lead employees and/or teams

•  How to locate, interview and select the best employees

•  How to supervise, manage and motivate all of your employees

•  Employee evaluation strategies and systems

•  Managing change in the workplace

•  Planning and evaluation models

•  Effective listening and communication skills for supervisors

 

Leading Employees Through Conflict Issues (.6 CEUS)

•  Identifying problems/conflict within the organization

•  Dealing with difficult people

•  Using your leadership strengths to better manage conflict

•  Coaching employees through conflict

•  Resolving interpersonal conflict

•  Dispute resolution

•  Policy development

•  The cardinal rules of termination for difficult employees

 

Developing and Maintaining Effective Teams (.6 CEUS)

•  Developing highly effective team in the workplace

•  How to diagnose, fix and turn teams around

•  Planning and leading productive meetings

•  Delegate or die
