Successful Social Media Strategies

Social Media offers almost any organization unprecedented access to a much larger audience.  Unlike traditional forms of marketing, social media is inexpensive and in many cases, free.  This levels the playing field and makes it possible for even the smallest company to make an impression.  This course is designed to train the front lines in a profession related to social media.  We will cover 6 areas of content that will prepare professionals for the changing industry of social media. 

  • Strategic planning
  • Compliance and Governance
  • Project Management
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Community Management
  • Research and Analysis

Students will gain knowledge and skills needed to navigate common industry challenges, and create a return on their investment for their company or organization utilizing social media strategies.

Students will also have a better understanding of how to manage and measure their efforts using social media, create strategic plans for efforts, and be introduced to platforms that will assist with their efficiency using social to reach a target audience.  In addition, each student will learn the various aspects of compliance and governance using social media to prevent and protect their organization.


This is an online, asynchronous (self-paced with weekly requirements) course that expects you to work approximately 6 hours per week for 5 weeks.

Instructor Name: Connie Troska 


Instructor Bio: Connie Troska received her degree in Communications and Marketing from Bemidji State University and her professional certification in Social Media Management from Emory University. She is also a Master Microsoft Office Specialist and has been a technology trainer for businesses for over 20 years. She also works with small businesses and non-profits on an individual basis to start or enhance their Social Media Marketing strategies. Her niche has been businesses in small towns throughout northern Minnesota and eastern North Dakota, including a retail flower shop, a salon and spa, and an electrical company. In her spare time, Connie is a volunteer EMT, keeps abreast of new and emerging technologies, and she enjoys spending time with family and gardening.
