Make wise business decisions by developing an understanding of your company’s financial information.

It’s hard to run a successful business if you don’t have a good grasp of the financial position of your company.  Developing the right kind of knowledge can give you, as a business owner, the confidence to move forward knowing you have made business decisions based on solid assumptions.  The information presented in this workshop will be presented in a straightforward way and geared toward developing a very practical understanding of the financial system, information, and reports that will help the owner or manager of a business to plan and control daily operations and assist in long-range planning activities.  This workshop will help you to:

  • Gain perspective and develop a deeper understanding of the financial issues facing you
  • Develop a working knowledge of basic financial terms and accounting systems
  • Develop a working knowledge of some of the most important types of information produced by accounting system – financial statements

Who should attend?    Small Business Owners and Managers who:

  • would like to feel more comfortable with financial tools
  • have little or no knowledge of their business financials
  • have some understanding but would like to fully understand income statements and balance sheets
  • would like to understand what lending institutions consider when analyzing credit risk
  • question what their financial statements are really telling them (or outside people)
  • wonder if they will have enough money to pay their bills on time and wish they had a better handle on when money will flow in/out of their business
  • would like to use their financial system (QuickBooks) more extensively
  • would like to gain more confidence in using the financial statements and reporting functions with financial system (QuickBooks)

Day 1:  Understanding your Income Statement and Balance Sheet

  • Understand what the numbers on your income and balance statement really mean and how they can help you manage your business
  • Understand ratios and the information a bank is going to look at when making a lending decision

Day 2:  Understanding your Cash Flow and Planning for Your Future Financial Needs

  • Learn how to prepare a realistic budget that will help you to spend your money in the best possible way
  • Develop a cash flow report based on solid assumptions to help you project if you will have money to cover your financial obligations throughout the year

Day 3:  Managing Your Accounting System - Understanding Reports and Using Your Financial Data to Help You Make Management Decisions 

  • Set up and understand your accounting system so you will have the information you need to make good management decisions 

Meet Your Presenter

Renae Shields is the founder and CEO of Core Value Consulting, LLC, a consulting firm specializing in planning and operations, finance, marketing, and training for small businesses, nonprofits and government agencies. Renae acts as a coach and confidant to owners and managers – providing research, training, and planning.
