Holocaust Literature

During this course, critical elements of the history used as a backdrop in Holocaust literature and utilizing actual texts (e.g., Night) will be reviewed. Other topics and activities:

  • Backgrounds of authors are addressed in order to better understand the religious and cultural contexts of selected texts
  • A glossary is provided from Jewish life/Judaism used in Holocaust literature
  • Guided discussions of the themes that can be developed in classrooms
  • Exploration of resources from the U.S. Holocaust Museum, Yad Vashem, films and the internet

Meet the Presenter:

Dr Joseph A EdelheitDr. Joseph A. Edelheit, D Min, DD, Director and Professor of Religious and Jewish Studies at SCSU from 2003 to present.  Dr. Edelheit has also served as the senior Rabbi at Temple Israel, Minneapolis, from 1992 - 2001.  Dr. Rabbi Edelheit has authored several essays and chapters dealing with interfaith relations.  He was the cofounder of the Downtown Interfaith Forum in Minneapolis.
