   SHRM Certification

If you earn PHR or SPHR credentials this Fall you will also be eligible to  add the new SHRM certification to your list of credentials free of charge from January 1- December 31, 2015. Earning an HR credential is a sign of commitment and dedication to the HR profession.  SHRM applauds and recognizes your efforts to enhance your skills and raise the value of the profession.

Beginning in 2015 we are excited to be able to offer preparation for a new SHRM certification supported with the SHRM Learning System®, a proven program designed to help HR professionals earn their HR credentials.

The new SHRM certification recognizes that HR professionals are at the core of leading organizational success. It is built upon one singular body of knowledge designed to elevate the HR profession around the world. It ensures that the HR professional possesses the relevant HR knowledge required for today’s workplace, but it goes one step further. The SHRM certification tests HR competencies – the ability to put knowledge to work through critical thinking and application.

Already certified?

You will not lose or have to give up any of your current credentials in order to obtain the new SHRM certification.

Beginning January 1, 2015, HR professionals with existing generalist certifications (PHR, SPHR, GPHR, HRBP or HRMP) that are in good standing will be eligible for SHRM's new certification -- at no cost -- by completing the following by December 31, 2015:

  • Document that your current certification is in good standing.
  • Sign the Code of Ethics.
  • Complete a brief online tutorial on HR competencies.

The online tutorial will focus on HR competencies and will take less than one hour to complete.

Once you go through this process, you may add the new SHRM credential to your current list of credentials and will begin a three-year recertification cycle.

SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP)

SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP)

Beginning on January 1, 2015 the PHR/SPHR certifications will no longer be recognized by SHRM.   Folks holding those certifications can follow the process below to transition to the new SHRM Certified Professional certification.

  • If you currently hold a generalist HR certification, you will not lose or have to give up your current credentials in order to obtain the new SHRM certification.  You earned the letters after your name and SHRM recognizes and is proud of your achievement.  We do believe that the SHRM certification is the next evolution in assessments and will become the new standard for HR professionals around the globe.  We also believe that the SHRM credential is the first HR certification that is focused on identifying and testing the practical, real-life experiences HR professionals need to excel in their careers today, including knowledge, behavioral and leadership skills.
  • If you are currently certified and are in good standing with your current certification - or if you become certified by January 31, 2015 - you will be eligible for the new SHRM certification at no additional cost by completing the following by December 31, 2015:

         a.  Document that your current certification is in good standing

         b.  Sign the SHRM Code of Ethics

         c.  Complete a brief online tutorial on HR competencies

Once you go through this process you will be able to use the new SHRM designation and   begin a new three-year certification cycle under the SHRM certification program.  Our goal is to make this seamless for those who have already made the investment and gone through the process of becoming certified.
