This half-day training workshop will provide a wealth of detailed information on mind-body interventions that are frequently used successfully within psychotherapy practices for traumatized children, adolescents, and their families. Focus throughout this interactive training will be upon the development of pragmatic, immediately useful tools for everyday counseling of children and adolescents who have experienced trauma in some form. Participants will receive a brief review of emotional trauma as it relates to children and adolescents. Participants will come to understand the rational behind integrating traditional and integrative approaches for this population of clients. Participants will learn specific assessment techniques important in approaching cases with a mind-body perspective. In addition, participants will develop an understanding of specific strategies useful in addressing the associated challenges of trauma in children and adolescents. Review of mind-body techniques will include audience participation through some experientials with techniques such as diaphragmatic breathing, visualization, relaxation and mental imagery skills, progressive muscle relaxation, self-hypnosis, autogenics, and biofeedback.
