Administrative organizational structures vary between school districts, and administrators may have responsibilities for multiple additional specialized program areas. Providing administrative leadership for English Learners (LEP, ESL, ELL) and Gifted/Talented (GT) programming are two examples. Title programs, Alternative Learning Centers (including Targeted Services), particular prevention programs can also be identified within the scope of responsibilities of this role.
Karen Filla serves as the Director of Student Support Services in the Eden Prairie School District; all of the above functions are embedded in her current role. Typically, an individual highly skilled and licensed in the special education professional field has limited experience or knowledge related to other important program areas. This course will focus primarily on EL and GT administration and programming.
Karen Filla has worked in public schools for over 40 years, serving as an elementary classroom and special education teacher in the St. Louis Park Public Schools, and the Director of Special Services in the Hopkins Public Schools .She has a breadth of experiences providing training in areas of strategic planning, group facilitation, and leadership development.
