
Co-Teaching
«
Two presentations were made on the co-teaching model to area
educators – one at Roosevelt Early Childhood Center and the other at Tatonka Elementary School in Buffalo.
«
Six workshops were held for teacher candidates interested in
co-teaching either in the Spring (2004-2005 academic year or the Fall
(2005-2006 academic year). 124 students were in-serviced.
«
One additional workshop was held for P-12 educators interested in
co-teaching with a teacher candidate. 91 teachers attended this workshop.
«
Four half-day workshops were provided to 75 co-teaching pairs.
These sessions are held at the beginning of the co-teaching experience.
«
Nine area districts have been identified for possible expansion
of co-teaching in the 2005-2006 school year: Kimball, Dassel – Cokato, Little
Falls, Foley, Royalton, Melrose, Albany, Princeton and Milaca. The
superintendents from those districts have been invited to an informational
meeting which will be held in April.

Co-teaching is occurring in 81 classrooms this semester.

A workshop for university faculty utilizing co-teaching with
undergraduates (Technology Education and Math) was held on January 13, 2005.
Professional Development
«
An on-line professional development needs assessment was made
available to teachers and paraprofessionals in five area school districts (Becker, Monticello, Rocori, St. Cloud and Sartell). 1,168 unduplicated responses were
received. Overall findings have been attached to this report. In addition, the
data has been disaggregated by district, by the number of years of teaching
experience and by area of licensure.

The Professional Development Consortium is using the results of
the needs assessment to design a one-day professional development conference,
which will be held on June 14, 2005.

The Professional Development Consortium has developed an
Expertise Sharing database that is available in the Professional Development
portion of our website http://www.stcloudstate.edu/coe/tqe.
This is provides an opportunity for area educators to share their expertise.

The Professional Development Learning Community continues to meet
monthly. They are reading and discussing a variety of informative articles.
They are scheduled to conclude their one year of study at the end of this
academic year, at which time they will be making recommendations for on-going
professional development activities.
Mentoring
«
The second New Teacher Gathering has been planned and will be
held on April 19, 2005 at the Kelly Inn in St. Cloud. Brooke Haycock will be
presenting “Dilated Pupils – and the Not-so-Soft Bigotry of a Nation,” a
theatrical presentation of the emotionally charged issues we face in American
education.

The Professional Learning Community on Mentoring continues to
meet monthly. They have studied a number of exemplary mentor and induction
programs around the country and have developed a list of common attributes
including those that they feel should be further developed through the TQE
initiative and those that should be developed at a district level. They have
also reviewed the data from new teachers (0-3 years experience) responding to
the professional development needs assessment and have recommended a number of
sessions for new teachers at the June 14th conference.

The TQE Leadership team has been planning a leadership retreat
for April 2005. This 1˝ day retreat will focus on evaluation of our current
progress toward benchmarks, goals for the coming year, dissemination
opportunities for 2005-2006 and developing a 14 month calendar of activities.

Co-teaching specialists continue to inform their respective
departments of TQE initiatives and have provided opportunities for the
departments to provide input and feedback.
«
An updated TQE Project Review was presented to the Dean’s
Advisory Council on March 3, 2005.
«
There are currently 33 building contacts working as liaisons
between the grant initiatives and the public schools. Building contacts have
been instrumental in providing up to date information to P-12 faculty on events
and opportunities available through TQE.
Other Progress
«
Data collection this quarter has focused on workshop feedback,
mid-term student feedback from university co-taught courses, professional
development needs assessment, development of other on-line surveys (to be
completed at the end of the semester), disaggregating mid-year P-12 attendance
and discipline data, group interview question paths and P-12 academic
achievement post-test scheduling.
