*CEEP 690: Introduction to Gifted Education
This course introduces the student to the field of gifted, creative and talented and high ability children. This course also provides an overview of the field of gifted education, including: the history of the field; characteristics and needs of gifted, talented and high ability children; identification procedures; special populations; program and instructional needs; social and emotional issues; and, the current state of gifted education nationally and within Minnesota. Students will have a thorough understanding of the field and its application to their school and classroom.

Higher Education Administration

The Higher Education Administration Master’s program prepares students for entry-level positions as higher education leaders in community, technical, and four-year colleges and universities.  Students interested in careers in higher education receive a comprehensive program of study that explores academic affairs, student affairs, and administrative affairs. This intense summer course is designed to help teachers explore the importance of fostering children’s/young adult’s understanding of and proficiency with the reading and writing of informational texts. Emphasis will be placed upon a solid theoretical grounding for engaging students in such reading and writing and on specific strategies for use in the classroom. By permission only; 4th class in 5-course sequence.

***ED 627
Middle Level Specialty Course: ED-627, Education of the Emerging Adolescent, is a required course for Middle Level Specialty for both K-6 and 7-12 Teaching Licenses. This course is an intense, workshop-style course, using hands-on and interactive strategies to provide practical knowledge and skills.

Certificate Programs

Autism Certificate

Educators or professionals in human services may be eligible to enroll in summer courses leading to a 9-credit Graduate Autism Certificate. Courses leading to the certificate represent a partnership between three departments at SCSU-Special Education, Communication Sciences and Disorders, and Community Psychology. The program emphasizes positive behavioral supports and the fundamentals of functional behavioral assessment. The Certificate is designed for candidates with a four-year degree from an accredited university. First-time SCSU students must complete a data form and be admitted to the Graduate Certificate program.
