Students - Scholarships
The Department offers the following scholarships
and awards. The scholarships awarded and dollar amounts
may vary from year to year depending on funding availability. Scholarship
Details are available along with forms in the Communication Studies
office. Most of these scholarships are awarded in the spring
and applications are available in March or April. Scholarship Recipients are invited to a banquet in the spring hosted by Comm Club.
The Art and Barb Grachek Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a Communication Studies major or minor
enrolled in an SCSU study abroad program with a GPA of at least 3.0, who
intends to return to SCSU after completing their study abroad experience.
One $500 scholarship is awarded.
Faculty and Alumni Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded to undergraduate Communication Studies
majors and minors on the basis of academic achievement and talent
in Communication Studies. Three $300 scholarships may be awarded each
year.
Ray Pederson Memorial Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students with a cumulative
GPA of 3.00 who show talent in Communication Studies or communication
arts, and who show financial need. A $300 or a $500 scholarship may be
awarded.
The Charles and Carol Vick Communication Studies Scholarship for Non-Traditional
Students
This scholarship is awarded to a Communication Studies major who is a
non-traditional student (at least 25 years of age) and who demonstrates
academic achievement in Communication Studies. A $250 scholarship may
be awarded.
The Robert and Alice Wick Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded to juniors and seniors who are majors
in Communication Studies and who show leadership potential. Two $500 scholarships
may be awarded.
Mary Ahles Adams Forensics (Speech & Debate) Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students choosing to participate in the SCSU Forensics program. Up to $300 per semester per student may be awarded.
The Robert and LuBell Kendall Ethics Award
This award for Outstanding Paper in Communication Ethics is given to
a Communication Studies major or minor who demonstrates outstanding scholarship
in Communication Ethics. Student papers must be nominated by faculty who
teach Communication Ethics. One $100 award may be given.
The Mollie Young Marinovich Outstanding Internship Award in Communication
Studies
This award is given to an intern in Communication Studies who has exhibited
excellence in applied learning in the professional arena. It is awarded in the fall to a student or students who have completed an internship during the spring or summer of the year prior to the award.
