A Communication Studies Internship may be for you!

Gain 'hands on' experience and earn university elective credit.

What is a CMST Internship?

  • Supervised student field experience
  • Within an approved agency or organization
  • For academic credit (CMST 444, 8-16 university elective credits - determined by nature of internship and hours worked; summer internships are limited to 8-10 credits.)
  • Primary focus on communication
  • Designed to enhance the academic experience through applied learning

How do I qualify to intern in Communication Studies?

  • Declare a CMST major or minor
  • Junior or senior year
  • Complete all of the communication minor or half of the communication courses required in the major
  • Complete either CMST 341 or 441
  • Interview with the internship director at least one semester prior to the internship semester
  • Use department & personal resources to secure internship anywhere
  • Attend pre-internship seminar semester prior to internship
  • Design learning agreement with department internship director in order to secure permission to register for the internship
