Primary and/or current research interests
I am intrigued by the challenges of living out a central proposition of contemporary communication theory--that communication constructs the worlds in which we live--especially in regard to communication ethics. If we do not communicate ethically, ethics will not be part of the worlds in which we live. My teaching and writing explores some of the dynamics of mindfully practicing these two ideas. I have a particular interest in practices that help communicators overcome their personal ethical nearsightedness. My book Practicing Communication Ethics: Development, Discernment and Decision Making explores these ideas, among others.
I have participated in the SCSU British Studies program as a faculty member and an academic director, most recently in 2011. I have traveled in Europe and the Republic of Korea.
I am fond of reading science fiction and puttering around with plants.
