Deadlines and Milestones (Transition Points)
- Initial Transition Points
- Students inquiring about an IM major in the CIM office will fill out an inquiry form and an adviser will be assigned.
- Student meets with an adviser regarding career goals and program requirements.
- Student must have a 2.75 cumulative GPA at SCSU to be admitted to the IM major.
- Major Program form is completed by student in consultation with adviser and filed with Records & Registration.
- Major Program form specifies courses to be taken
- Adviser informs the student a cumulative 2.75 GPA must be maintained in order to remain in the IM program.
- Continuation Transition Points
- Student successfully completes all courses specified in Major Program form up to IM444 and IM486 Seminar: Designing and Developing the E-folio.
- Student maintains a 2.75 cumulative GPA (C+ average) in all undergraduate graduate courses taken.
- The GPA is monitored by the Center for Information Media (CIM). If the student is not maintaining the GPA, CIM can drop the student from the major.
- Student will be notified in writing if he or she is to be dropped from major.
- Student may complete an internship.
- During the semester before the internship, the student makes initial contact with CIM internship supervisor to receive informational handouts, the needs assessment form, and the assessment guide and rubrics.
- Student completes and returns the Internship Planning Guide the semester prior to starting the internship. This Guide includes objectives agreed upon by student and on-site supervisors(s), which are sent to the SCSU internship supervisor.
- Student completes internship and the required papers.
- The site supervisor and SCSU internship supervisor evaluate the student's internship experience.
- Final Transition Points
- At the time of graduation, if the student does not have the requisite 2.75 cumulative GPA, the student will not graduate.
- Student takes and successfully completes IM486 Seminar: Designing and Developing the E-folio.
- E-folio is successfully completed
- Follow-up Transition Points
- Student is followed up via a Web survey to determine job satisfaction and program satisfaction.
