Master of Science - Educational Media (Track II)
Deadlines and Milestones (Transition Points)
For students without teaching license.
- Initial Transition Points
- Application is submitted to Graduate Studies and student is admitted to graduate studies.
- Student meets with an adviser regarding career goals and program requirements.
- Written Exam and Preliminary Oral Interview are completed successfully for admission to IM program.
- Program of Study is completed by student in consultation with adviser and filed.
- Program of Study specifies courses to be taken
- Student selects plan (A – Thesis, B – Research Paper, C – Portfolio)
- Student takes Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) and scores are reported to SCSU. Student completes other requirements for teacher education.
- Continuation Transition Points
Completion of course work- Student completes all SLMS courses specified in Program of Study up to IM608 and IM682 successfully.
- Student maintains a 3.0 GPA (B average) in all graduate courses taken.
- Student successfully completes Praxis II Test
- Student successfully completes SLMS Subject Matter Test (Praxis II)
- Student completes written self-assessment based on competencies
- Student completes competency review.
- Student completes the application for internship.
- Student sets goals for internship. These are agreed upon by student and on-site supervisors(s) that are sent to the SCSU practicum supervisor.
- Student successfully completes practicum (IM682, 1-3 cr.).
- Student completes the required journals and reflective evaluation paper.
- The site supervisor and SCSU practicum supervisor evaluate the student's practicum experience.
- Student takes IM608.
- Course is completed successfully.
- Proposal for Thesis, Research Paper, or Portfolio is written.
- Student completes all SLMS courses specified in Program of Study up to IM608 and IM682 successfully.
- Final Transition Points
- Student applies for media licensure. Licensure awarded.
- Thesis, Research Paper, or Portfolio is written.
- Final draft of proposal is completed in consultation with adviser.
- Plan A (Thesis) or C (Portfolio) – Schedule preliminary proposal meeting at least one semester before planned graduation date.
- Successfully complete Thesis, Research Paper, or Portfolio
- Plan A (Thesis) or C (Portfolio) – Schedule final meeting
- Final draft of paper is accepted by committee.
- Plan B - Final draft of paper is accepted by adviser.
- Plan A (Thesis) or C (Portfolio) – Schedule final meeting
- Submit final copies of paper to committee.
- Student successfully completes comprehensive written exam.
- Student completes oral exit interview and survey.
- Degree awarded
- Follow-up Transition Points
- Students are followed up via a web survey to determine job satisfaction and program satisfaction.
- Students (and employers) complete a survey from the Dean’s office
