Master of Science - Educational Media (Track II)

Deadlines and Milestones (Transition Points)

For Pre-SLMS Educational Media Undergraduate Major or Minor Program students with no teaching license.

  1. Initial Transition Points (TP 1-3)
    1. Student makes application for admission to IM program.
      1. ED300 Field Experience
      2. Student must have GPA of 2.75 or greater for major
      3. Student must have at least 36 semester hours towards bachelor’s degree
      4. Student meets with an adviser regarding career goals and program requirements.
      5. Program of Study is completed in consultation with adviser and filed.
    2. Student takes Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) and scores are reported to SCSU.
    3. Other requirements for teacher education are completed.
    4. Must have achieved a “C” or higher in ENGL191 and CMST (SPC)192 (waived if student has a BA or BS). Transfer students may need to recheck transferability of courses taken to fulfill these general education requirements. Transfer students must see a Transfer Adviser in AS A118.
    5. ED421/431 Rating of Teacher Dispositions and 441 Field Experiences
  2. Continuation Transition Points Completion of course work
    1. Student completes all courses specified in Program of Study up to internship successfully.
      1. Student maintains a 3.0 GPA (B average) in all Standards of Effective Practice (SEP) licensure courses taken.
      2. Student maintains a 3.0 GPA (B average) in all School Library Media Specialist (SLMS) licensure courses taken for IM major.
    Pre-clinical
    1. Student completes written self-assessment based on competencies.
    2. Student completes the application for internship.
    3. Student on-site supervisors(s) and the SCSU practicum supervisor agree upon goals for the internship.
    Pre-SLMS Clinical
    1. Student completes internship (IM444, 3 cr.).
    Post-Clinical
    1. Student completes internship and the required journals and reflective evaluation paper.
    2. The site supervisor and SCSU internship supervisor evaluate the student's internship experience.
  3. Final Transition Points
    1. Baccalaureate Degree awarded (Note: Licensure incomplete at undergraduate level)
    2. Student applies for media licensure (after completion of Part IV below).
  4. Follow-up Transition Points
    1. Licensure program matriculation (see graduate licensure transition points)
    2. Student completes content area methods coursework at graduate level. SLMS TP #4 up to IM682 successfully.
      1. Student maintains a 3.0 GPA (B average) in all graduate courses taken.
    Pre-clinical
    1. Student completes written self-assessment based on competencies.
    2. Student completes the application for internship.
      1. Student, on-site supervisors(s) and SCSU practicum supervisor agree upon practicum goals.
    Clinical
    1. Student successfully completes required practicum journals and the reflective evaluation paper.
    2. Student arranges for onsite visit/s between student, on-site supervisors(s) and SCSU practicum supervisor and successfully demonstrates competencies chosen as goals.
    Post-Clinical
    1. The site supervisor and SCSU practicum supervisor evaluate the student's practicum experience.
    2. Student successfully completes SLMS Subject Matter Test (Praxis II) SLMS TP #5
    3. Student applies for licensure.
