School Library Media Licensure

The School Library Media Licensure course sequence offered by the Center for Information Media (CIM) at St. Cloud State University, incorporates all of the competency requirements leading to a school library media specialist license in Minnesota. It is specifically structured for people pursuing a career in the public schools as a librarian. The curriculum includes courses in library/media management, technological applications for teaching and learning, and instructional development and production. The course work builds on basic skills and competencies required for teacher licensure. The course work leading to a school library media specialist license may be completed without completing a masters degree.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Candidates demonstrate the ability to develop and implement an information media program that reflects the vision, mission, and goals of the school.
  2. Candidates demonstrate the ability to develop and implement an information media program that is an integral part of the total curriculum.
  3. Candidates demonstrate the ability to develop and implement information media program policies and procedures consistent with principles of professional practice and appropriate to the mission and goals of the school and district.
  4. Candidates demonstrate the ability to initiate and maintain motivating, technology-current and research-based environments that foster the continued professional growth of the learning community.
  5. Candidates demonstrate an understanding of the teaching of information media with the understanding of pedagogy, students, learning, classroom management, and professional development.

Students with baccalaureate degrees who have teacher licensure or are eligible for teacher licensure may apply for admission to pursue licensure as school library media specialists.
