Digital Forensics and Ethics class tours Global EDGE, LLC

On Thursday, March 28th 2013, Dr. Mark Schmidt, Director of the CIAS, CIAS faculty member Dr. Jim Chen as well as IS faculty member Dr. Lynn Collen had the opportunity to take the Digital Forensics and Ethics class on a tour of Global EDGE, LLC, a risk management solutions company based in St. Cloud, MN. The students were taken on a tour of the company’s facilities, and then were able to meet with members of the Global EDGE Executive Team, including President and Co-Founder, Jay Cherry and Chief Information Officer, John Nokes. In addition, they also had the opportunity to meet with Human Resources Manager, Suzanne Jennings and the Director of Operation, Cheryl Patton.
The students were then able to participate in a real-world case study regarding a potential fraud situation. The students were asked to brainstorm ideas that Global EDGE could utilize in its resolution of the case. Following the group discussion, Global EDGE then reviewed the techniques and data analytics tools they use to isolate potential fraudulent events with their patent-pending Multi-Factor Authentication and Outcome-based Isolation fraud detection software.
Finally, the class was also able to spend time with Brigadier General Robert T. Brooks, USAF, retired. General Brooks is an F-15C combat veteran pilot of all major U.S. conflicts from the past 20 years. Having worked in numerous roles over the course of his career, General Brooks specifically discussed his experience in dealing with non-classified cyber-warfare challenges that our country faces each and every day.
