Tour of Medtronic's Computer Forensics Lab

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

In July, Dr. Mark Schmidt, director for the CIAS, and Michele Mumm, MBA Program Director, had the opportunity to tour the Medtronic computer forensics lab along with Medtronic employee and MBA student, Toni Walton.  The Medtronic forensic investigators explained the techniques they use for digital investigations of computers, cell phones and other electronic equipment.  They explained the importance of working together with other forensic investigators from other companies and with law enforcement to share emerging technology, trends and best practices.  Skilled computer forensic investigators are a growing need in both the public and private sectors.  The number of mobile devices in use continues to grow and this keeps computer forensics teams very busy and provides for a fast paced, continuously changing work environment.
