Mark B. Schmidt, Ph.D.

Professor of Information Systems

Mark B. Schmidt is a Professor of Information Systems at St. Cloud State University. He holds a BS from Southwest State University in Business and Agri-Business, an MBA from St. Cloud State University, and MSIS and Ph.D. degrees from Mississippi State University. His research focuses on information security, end-user computing, and innovative information technologies. He has authored over 50 manuscripts on various topics in computer security and management information systems. In March 2008 and in February 2012 he coordinated one week computer forensics training programs for law enforcement sponsored by the National Forensics Training Center at Mississippi State University.

Jim Q. Chen, Ph.D.

Jim Q. Chen is a Professor of Information Systems at St. Cloud State University. He received his Ph.D. in Management Information Systems in 1995 from University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His current research interests include Information security, E-commerce, and executive decision support systems. His recent publications appeared in Journal of Global Information Management, Information Systems Management, Journal of Internet Commerce, Communications of the ACM, Decision Support Systems, Journal of Computer Information Systems, Systems Development Management, among other journals.

Tirthankar Ghosh, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
Department of Statistics and Computer Networking

Tirthankar Ghosh is an Assistant Professor in Computer Networking and Applications at St. Cloud State University. He holds a Ph.D. In Electrical Engineering and M.S. in Computer Engineering from Florida International University in Miami, Florida, and also a B.E. in Electrical Engineering from Jadavpur University in India. His research interest is in trust modeling and routing security in wireless ad-hoc networks. He is a member of IEEE and ACM, and has published several journal articles and book chapters. Recently he got a grant to set up an ad-hoc network testbed on campus and do empirical research on security and routing algorithms in ad-hoc networks. He has taught courses on Intrusion Detection, Firewall, Wireless Networks, and Security in Ad-hoc Networks.

Dennis Guster, Ed. D.
Professor
Information Systems

Dennis Guster is a Professor in the Information Systems Department at St. Cloud State University. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Bemidji State University and his Doctorate from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He has been involved in computer security for 30 years and has devised and taught numerous courses related to information assurance. Further, he has published numerous articles and undertaken sponsored research projects in the area. His current research emphasis is pedagogical aspects of teaching information assurance and security within a distributed computing environment. Recently he has taught courses in Computer Security Policy, Client/Server Security and Security Management.

Susantha Herath, Ph.D.
Chair & Professor of Information Systems

Susantha Herath is the Chairperson and Professor in the Information Systems Department at St. Cloud State University. He received his PhD in Computer Engineering from Keio University, MS in Industrial Engineering Management from the University of Electrocommunications, Japan and BS in Business Administration from the Sri Jayawardenapura University, Sri Lanka. His current research interests are in Information Assurance and Security. He taught numerous courses related to security and has published many papers. Susantha is a Senior Member of the IEEE. Together with other faculty members at IS department, Susantha initiated and has been working to develop the SCSU Center for Information Assurance and graduate program in Information Assurance since 2002. He has been organizing the annual computer security conference series at SCSU since 2002.

Kate Mooney, Ph.D., CPA
Chairperson and Professor
Department of Accounting

Kate Mooney is a professor of accounting at St. Cloud State University, where she teaches courses on fraud and forensic accounting. She earned her PH.D. at Texas A&M University and is a graduate of the Fraudwise Academy Bootcamp. In addition to numerous articles, she has authored three books, including Sound Investing: Uncover Fraud and Protect Your Portfolio. Kate is also active at the national level of several professional organizations including the AICPA, and serves as a trustee for a pension fund. As a CPA, she was appointed by Governor Tim Pawlenty to the Minnesota Board of Accountancy, where she was elected Secretary/Treasurer.

Amos O. Olagunju, Ph.D.

Amos Olagunju is a Professor of Computer Networking and Applications. He received Master's from Queen's University, a Doctorate from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, and Certificates in Bioinformatics, Cryptography and Information Security, and Digital Communication Networks from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served on the Oxford University Round Table on Balancing the Interests for the Regulation of Cyberspace. His current research is focused on formal verifications of security algorithms and protocols. He regularly teaches cryptography, computer network security and open systems interconnection layers security at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Changsoo Sohn, Ph.D.

Changsoo Sohn is an Associate professor of Information Systems at St. Cloud State University. He received his MBA and Ph.D. in Management Information Systems in 2000 from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He joined the IS Department in the Fall of 2000. Between 2003 and 2006, he served as Associate Dean of Graduate School of Business Administration at The Catholic University of Korea. His main research interests are electronic commerce and e-service quality management. His research was published in many journals and conference proceedings. His article, coauthored with Suresh K. Tadisina, won the “Kanji Prize for Best 2008 Article” in Total Quality Management and Business Excellence.

Erich Rice, J.D.

Erich Rice is the new Security Assistant for the Center for Information Assurance Studies, in the Herberger Business School, at St. Cloud State University. Mr. Rice is a full time student in the Master of Science in Information Assurance (MSIA) program. He holds a Bachelor degree in History with a Management minor from St. Johns University, in Collegeville, MN. He also holds a Juris Doctorate degree from William Mitchell College of Law, St. Paul, MN and hopes his legal experience will provide a valuable asset to both the CIAS as well as his fellow students in the MSIA program.

Steve Minkler
Former Graduate Assistant - CIAS

Steve MinklerSteve Minkler is the Security Assistant for the Center for Information Assurance Studies, St. Cloud State University. Mr. Minkler is a fulltime student in Master of Business Administration at Herberger Business School. He holds a Bachelor degree in Education from the University of Minnesota, served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and worked in private and public education before beginning his graduate studies.
