Welcome Parents!

As the parent of a college student, you play a significant role in your student's transition to college. Did you know that when it comes time for students to make career and educational choices parents are the #1 influence? The Career Services Center is dedicated to helping your son or daughter from the moment they step on-campus, throughout their college years and beyond. Please encourage your student to visit our office located in Centennial Hall, Suite 215, and take advantage of our services early on in their college career.

What Parents Need to Know:

  • Be patient with the time your student takes to make a decision about his or her career choice. Career decision takes time... 2/3 of college students start college not knowing what to major in.
  • Students look to their parents for advice and suggestions in making decisions.
  • The job market changes daily.
  • Due to rapidly growing technology, many of the jobs that exist now did not even exist ten years ago.
  • It's important for students to realize the value of getting an education, not just a degree.
  • Most people will change careers an average of 5-7 times before they retire.
  • There is help for your student at St. Cloud State University; we are committed to their success!
