Where to Get Help

Are you feeling lost or confused about choosing a major or career? There are many ways to get help!

Where to get started
  • Schedule an appointment with a career counselor or peer intern. Appointments with a career counselor are best if you have in-depth questions or are really struggling with your major or career choice (1 hour appointment). Interns can help you if you have more general questions or are just getting started with your major or career exploration (30 minutes).
  • Sign up for our Career Peer Mentor program. This new program allows you to connect one-on-one with another SCSU student who has been trained to help you with choosing a major, career exploration, writing a resume, job searching, and more! Unlike a traditional appointment, our mentors can meet with you in other locations on campus that are convenient for you as well as during evening or weekend hours!
  • Take COLL 111, Career and Life Planning. This is a 2 credit course that guides you through self-assessment, career research, decision-making, and career preparation. For current offering and sample course syllabi, please visit the COLL 111 page on our site.
  • Review the Career Planner in the Link. If you have a copy of The Link, check out the Career Planner section. This special section contains a lot of information and activities to help you with your career planning. If you do not have a copy, download it for free!
  • Attend an Exploring Majors and Careers seminar. This 50-minute workshop is offered several times throughout the semester. It is designed to give you an orientation to all of the resources we have that can help you with choosing a major, exploring career options, or making decisions related to your career. All sessions are held in CH 207 unless otherwise noted.
