Campus Recreation Mission Statement
The mission of the Department of Sport Facilities and Campus Recreation is to provide a broad program of sport, fitness and recreation activities for both men and women of all ability levels in order to enhance individuals academic productivity, personal effectiveness and quality of life. The department will also manage the institution’s sport facilities to maximize student recreation opportunities.
Greeting from our Director
It is with excitement and enthusiasm that we welcome you to SCSU and the Campus Recreation Department. Never before have SCSU students had the opportunities for recreation they have this year. With the completion of the Student Recreation Center and the Husky Stadium and funding approved for the replacement of the fieldhouse floor, we feel confident we have some of the finest recreation facilities in the region. Combine this with outstanding programs and an energetic, enthusiastic professional and student staff, we are ready and willing to meet your recreational needs and we are confident we can live up to our interest of “providing something for everyone.”
Please take the time to learn of the multitude of recreational opportunities available to you. As a unit of the Division of Student Life and Development we are committed to helping you grow as a person and a student. Research clearly shows that students that become active in recreation programs are more satisfied with their collegiate experience and are more successful as students.

Professional Staff
Ron Seibring , Director of Sport Facilities and Campus Recreation
Ron received both his Bachelors in Health Education and Masters in Athletic
Administration at Western Illinois University. At WIU, he was the Assistant
Director of Intramurals/Director of Sports Clubs. He then went to the University
of Wisconsin, Stout where he was the Director of Intramurals and then to
Wichita State University where he was the Coordinator of Intramurals and
Special Events. Ron has been at SCSU for 20 years and enjoys working with
students, University departments and the community to reach everyone’s
recreational needs. Ron is married and has four children, two of which are
students at SCSU.

Joe Meierhofer , Associate
Director of Sport Facilities and Campus Recreation
Joe graduated from SCSU with a degree in Engineering Technology and Aviation
and a minor in Business. He has been with SCSU since 1989 and enjoys working
with the students because it “keeps me young.”

Brian Johnson , Coordinator of Business Operations/Marketing
Brian attended the University of Wisconsin, River Falls, then transferred to SCSU where he graduated in 2000 with a degree in Health and Physical Education with minor in Coaching. He taught and coached at Sauk Rapids-Rice before coming to Campus Rec. in the Fall of 2002. Brian is currently working towards a Masters in Business Administration here at SCSU. He enjoys working with all the students that the department employs.

Erik Halverson , Coordinator of Sport Facilities and Events
Erik graduated from St. Cloud State University with a Bachelors Degree in Elective Studies with an emphasis in Sports Management. He is currently working on finishing his MS Degree in Sports Management. Throughout his undergraduate career he was employed by the National Hockey Center as a student supervisor of the pro shop and NHC events. He is originally from Alexandria, MN and enjoys golfing, hockey, and traveling.

Judy Behrend , Office Manager, Campus Recreation
After being an LPN for 17 years, Judy went back to school to get a degree
in court reporting. She practiced on the east coast and traveled back to
the Midwest and continued to do reporting in the St. Cloud area. She started
working at SCSU in 1997 in the Affirmative Action Office, but found her home
with Campus Rec. in 2003. “I love my job and working so closely with
the students.”

Shirley
Hanson,Office Manager, National Hockey Center
Shirley started working for SCSU in 1988 and began working at the NHC in
1994. With her husband, Jerry, she lives in a country home and loves organic
gardening. Working within the sports facilities has been very exciting and
upbeat and she works with a great group of co-workers that makes going to
work a positive thing each day.

Chris Haukos , Coordinator of Fitness and Special
Programs
Chris is a native of Fergus Falls, MN. Chris joined the SCSU Campus Recreation Department in 1996. She received her Masters degree in Exercise Science from SCSU. Her duties include fitness programming, special event programming and the RecKids programming. Chris is married to Brad Pickle, a special events director and they have three sons.

Ivan Bartha , Coordinator of Experiential Education and Outdoor Programming
Ivan graduated from Northern Michigan University with a Bachelors in Outdoor Recreation. He received his Masters of Science in Education from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Ivan is originally from Michigan and is excited about being back in the Midwest. He is an avid fisherman, canoeist and backcountry skier.

Chris Stepan , Coordinator of Intramurals and Sport Clubs
Chris graduated from the University of Minnesota, Duluth with a degree in Recreation Management and then at the University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse with a Masters in Sports Administration. He served one year as the Intramural Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin, Stout and three years as the Intramural Sports Director/Club Sports Coordinator at St. Olaf College. Chris is excited about making a move upwards by becoming a part of Campus Recreation.
