Belay Certification

Belaying is the act of controlling rope given to a climber and controlling the climbers descent with the aid of climbing hardware. Outdoor Endeavors trains participants to belay in the Rock Climbing Skills Clinics listed below. In order to belay climbers at the wall you must be certified to belay at our facility using our equipment and the belay techniques we recommend. In order to obtain a Belay Certification Card, climbers must do one of the following:

  • Participate & successfully complete a Rock Climbing Skills Clinic
  • Complete a challenge test arranged with the Climbing Wall Graduate Assistant or Student Manager
  • Re-test annually to keep certification current

Cost for a belay skills challenge test or annual re-test is $15 and should be scheduled or occur during a Rock Climbing Skills Clinic. You will receive a belay card that you need to have with you if you are belaying at the climbing wall.

Take your interest in climbing to the next level by participating in a Rock Climbing Skills Clinic! Learn fundamentals that will make you a safe and skilled climber. By successfully completing the clinic you will be issued belay certification that allows you to belay during open climbing hours.

Groundhog Day Climbing competition- Cancelled for 2008

It is with significant regret that we are not hosting a climbing competition this year. The amount of time and energy required has become difficult for the staff to manage. As regional climbing competitions are announced we will post those events here so climbers will have the chance to compete. Look for this event to take shape again in the future when we can do it justice.
