Atwood Theatre

Showing at 7:00pm
FLAKES showcases the deep and light powder from around the world that our audience has come to expect, blended together with the often flaky characters who thrive on this wintry existence. Shot entirely in HD, this hour long showcase of last winters adventures travels from Patagonia, The Wasatch Mountains, Haines, Valdez, The San Juans and Aspen. From Powderwhore: We spend most of the year chasing, skiing and celebrating these wonderful frozen crystals that fall in deep quantities. The rest of the time, we create moving pictures to document the incredible experiences that winter provides. www.powderwhore.com
Showing at 8:30pm
Skiing in the Shadow of Genghis Khan-In 2005 Nils Larsen, Dave Waag, and Naheed Henderson journeyed to the Altai Mountains of NW China to document the indigenous use of skis. Nils followed this first trip with three additional trips into this remote region and what he found was a rich culture that still builds and uses skis in ways that date back thousands of years. The movie takes you on a tour of both place and people, showing you how they build and use this ancient style of skis as well as live in this harsh but beautiful part of our world. www.freeheels.com

Center for Experiential Learning & Leadership (CELL Field Station)
This past spring, Outdoor Endeavors took over the operation and maintenance of a cabin adjacent to Kathio State Park just across the street from Lake Mille Lacs. This facility, named the Center for Experiential Learning & Leadership, provides an alternative programming location, recreation & retreat rental. The building is in the process of being renovated to accommodate up to 12 people throughout the year. Once this work is completed, the facility will be available for use by SCSU groups on an overnight basis. Additionally, the facility provides an opportunity to develop custom programs including canoeing, kayaking, ice fishing, snowshoeing, outdoor living skills and much more. For more information on the facility and associated opportunities, please contact Ivan Bartha at 320-308-6691 or ilbartha@stcloudstate.edu
Mississippi River Clean Up Project
Outdoor Endeavors believes that without a healthy environment and resources, our program could not exist. Since 2006, we have been tireless advocates for stewardship of OUR river and have taken action through our river clean up and education efforts. We host two annual events that focus on the West bank of the Mississippi River from the Newman Center downstream to the St. Cloud Dam. These efforts have made dramatic improvements in reducing the amount of litter and garbage in this section. We are also committed to other local clean up efforts and provide support through use of canoes and volunteers when possible. All clean up efforts are registered through the Minnesota DNR Adopt A River Program and with National River Clean Up Week.
