Group FItness
Campus Recreation offers a full schedule of classes taught by certified
instructors. There are two sessions each semester and passes are available
for 7 week schedules.

Group Fitness Instructor Training Certification
This is an opportunity for you to become an SCSU certified group fitness instructor. Components of the comprehensive 10 week course include anatomy, counting, cueing, class format and choreography. Students will be prepared to teach hi/lo cardio, funk, step, aqua, body sculpting, kickboxing, yoga, pilates, cycling, stability ball, BOSU balance, and many other new trends in fitness. At the completion of the class participants will have an opportunity to tryout for the SCSU Group Fitness team.
When: Monday nights from Sept. 18 - Nov. 20, 2006 in Studio #53
Time: 8:00 - 10:00pm
Fees:
SCSU Students - $75.00
All Others - $150.00

Group Fitness Class Descriptions
Aqua Blast - Decreast body fat and increase muscle tone without stress to your joints. This class is the most creative workout you'll ever experience. We use all sorts of toys that you could not otherwise use on land. Come join us and have fun with this spashin' good workout.
Body Sculpt - This will be a great chance to tone those important muscles - all of them! Free wights, resistance bands, and mats will be utilized as we firm up our bodies. Get the tight, toned look you want (without the bulk) by attending these classes.
Kick Mix- Develop some new skills with Kick Mix. This class incorporates a mixture of cardiovascular exercises with kickboxing moves such as, jabs, punches, hooks, blocks, kicks, aggressive side-kicks, and easy to follow combinations.
BOSU Balance- This class is designed to enhance your balance, improve your coordination, and recharge your body. You will literally keep all the muscles in your body activated as you tone your upper and lower body, abs and back. The BOSU ball allows you to combine cardiovascular activity, strength exercise, and flexibility. There is limited space. Only 12 participants allowed, so come early to reserve your BOSU ball.
Butts ‘n’ Guts- This is what the title reads, a 35-minute focus on those stubborn areas!! Come to this quick class to be reenergized about a new healthier you!
Yoga- This class will start with the basic fundamentals of yoga and later incorporate new and more advanced moves as we move on into the semester. This class is for all levels of strength; it will provide a great base for a beginner and challenging the more advanced participants.
Firm- Treat this class like your own personal training session without the cost! Firm is a resistance training program using dumbbells, bosu balance balls, and stability balls to work all the muscle groups. This dynamic workout will focus on strength, balance, stability and flexibility. Suitable for men and women of all fitness levels.
Cardio Mix- This awesome cardio class has it all!! We will start out with a warm-up of hi/lo floor aerobics, then pump things up with either a high intensity kickboxing or a step-it-up portion. Next, we’ll include some toning of the arms and legs with free weights, bands, and balls!! The closer will be push-ups and an amazing ab-workout. So, bring everything you got and enjoy the diversity and fun atmosphere of this class!!
Cycle & Cycle/Sculpt- This class is an extreme whole body workout that will get your blood pumping. It is a great cardiovascular exercise on the bike, that works those core leg muscles, but that is not all!! Toning and sculpting those arms is as important as the legs, and this is the class to do it.
Cycle & Abs- Hit teh bike for a 35-minute calorie burning workout and then grab the mat for 10 minutes of abs followed by 5 minutes of stretching.
High Intensity Training (H.I.T.)- This class will energize your week!! The instructor will push you to the max using low weight/high repetitions while doing intervals and repeated movements on the step and the floor. A great new class to try!!
Cardio Kick- Kick and Jab your way into a great cardio workout. This class incorporates punching bags, toning, and stretching in a 50-minute, pumped up class. Put up your dukes, and get ready to punch and kick your way to a healthier body!!
Pilates- Take time out for you. This pilates class will work on toning and lengthening those core muscles. Your flexibility will be increased as the semester goes on. You are sure to see total body results.
Step ‘n’ Shape- This class will use the basics of step and slowly add in more advanced moves with a touch of flare and fun. We will explore many different ways to use the step, which include techniques such as cardio, kickboxing, funk, salsa, basic floor aerobics, intervals, toning, and much more. The later portion of this class will work with shaping and toning those major muscle groups.
Cardio Zone- This class starts out with an awesome indoor cycling portion that will flow into different circuits and intervals to get your heart pumpin’. Cardio Zone will keep you moving and energized. Come to build your endurance, muscles, strength, and agility!
