Shelvie Christian Memorial Scholarship

Applications Due: Friday, February 14, 2014 by 4:30 p.m.

This $500 scholarship was initiated by students and faculty at St. Cloud State University. It was further enhanced by Shelvie Christian's husband, Lloyd, children, relatives, and friends in remembrance of her. At the age of 49, Shelvie served on the Student Senate, Academic Affairs Committee and the Student Senate Finance Committee at SCSU. At the age of 50 she commenced her studies at SCSU in 1986. Academically, she was pursuing a degree in mortuary science until a heart attack took her life on October 7, 1987. The purpose of this endowment is to recognize St. Cloud State University non-traditional students who are involved in on-campus extracurricular activities and who are making a contribution to the betterment of SCSU student life as Shelvie Christian exemplified.

Who is eligible?

• Non-traditional students at SCSU (25 years of age or older) who are enrolled part-time or full-time and are involved in SCSU student extracurricular activities.

William H. Kurtz Sustainability Service Award

Applications Due: Friday, February 14, 2014 by 4:30 p.m.

The William H. Kurtz Sustainability Service Award honors one undergraduate student annually who has shown outstanding evidence of sustainability focused outreach, volunteerism and service within the St. Cloud and Central Minnesota communities. The recipient of the William H. Kurtz Sustainability Service Award will receive a $500 award.

Soroko-Ditlevson Service Scholarship

Applications Due: Friday, February 14, 2014 by 4:30 p.m.

The Soroko-Ditlevson Service Scholarship recognizes a St. Cloud State University student who has demonstrated significant involvement in campus and/or community service.

This $500 scholarship is made possible by a generous gift from Mary Soroko and Andy Ditlevson. The donors have funded this service scholarship because they both experienced the transformational power of higher education. Prior to earning their degrees, each of them had very limited life choices. Both donors were first generation college students.

Preference for this scholarship will be given to students who are the first in their families to attend college. They should be full-time students who have declared a Business, Communication Studies or Mass Communication Major.

The Timothy J. Penny State & Federal Public Service Fellowship

Applications Due: November 1st and March 15th Annually.

The Penny Fellowship provides MnSCU Students with the financial opportunity to grow as public servants through participation in local, state, or federal government internships. State fellowship awards are $2,500, and federal awards are $5,000. Assistance in finding internships is available

The Barbara J. Penny Community Service Scholarship

Applications Due: November 1st and March 15, Annually

The Penny Scholarship recognizes MnSCU students who have demonstrated commitment to community service and leadership. Two scholarships of $1,500 each are given out each year.

The Jared P. Stene Student Leadership Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 30th Annually

The Jared P. Stene Student Leadership Scholarship is awarded to students who are leaders with a passion for student advocacy. A $2,000 scholarship is awarded each spring.

The James H. and Maryan G. McCormick Leadership Scholarship

Application Deadline: November 1st, annually

The James H. and Maryan G. McCormick Leadership Scholarship recognizes students demonstrating leadership in academics, extracurricular activities and community service. Two scholarships up to $1,000 each are awarded each fall (one to a state college student, one to a state university student).

MSCSA Leadership Scholarship

Application Deadline: November 1 and May 1 annually.

The MSCSA Leadership Scholarship rewards emerging student leaders for their community service and academic achievement. A number of scholarships are awarded twice each year.

Kayleen Larson Legacy Scholarship

The purpose of this fund is to provide one scholarship annually to a student at St. Cloud State University who has survived cancer.

Eligibility: Must be enrolled full-time at St. Cloud State University and self-identify as a cancer survivor.

Minnesota Campus Compact President's Awards

There are 3 award categories -- 1. Student Leadership Award; 2. Civic Engagement Steward Award (faculty/staff); and 3. Community Partner Award. The recipients may be individuals or groups. Final selections are made by the President of St. Cloud State University.
