Make Plans Now to Attend the 2011 Husky Dugout Club First Pitch Banquet on Feb. 4, 2011
Coyote Moon Banquet Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
The 4th Annual Husky Dugout Club's 1st Pitch Banquet is slated for February 4, 2011 at the Coyote Moon Banquet Center (located on the Territory Golf Course, three miles east of St. Cloud).
The great event will continue it's connection with the Minnesota Twins, as Al Newman will be the featured guest speaker. In the past three years Terry Ryan, former general manager, Dick Bremer, current Fox Sports/Twins play-by-play announcer and former SCSU Husky Baseball standout and former Twin Jim Eisenreich have all been guest speakers.
It is safe to say if you are a Minnesota Twins Fan then you know the name ‘Al Newman.' He is one of seven Twins who hold two World Series rings. ‘Newmie’ was traded to the Twins in 1987 for the most exciting five years in Minnesota Twins history. As a fleet footed and sure-handed defensive infielder, Newman was also a valuable utility player for the Twins. Al was a member of two World Championship teams in 1987 and 1991 Minnesota Twins.
“I appreciate the fact that I'm recognized for being part of the'87 & '91 World Series Champions and also for coaching the Minnesota Twins,” Al said. “But I'll be honest with you, what I really want to be known for is what I'm doing for others and I'm really looking forward to coming to St. Cloud to help Pat and his program out.”
Newman was drafted in the 1st round (12th pick) in the 1981 draft by the Montreal Expos and made his MLB debut on June 14, 1985. He played in the bigs with the Twins, Expos and Texas Rangers.
The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour, followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the program at 7:00p.m. A live auction will take place at 8:30 p.m. and live music entertainment will follow.
Well-known Minnesota master of ceremonies Dick Jonkowski will be featured along with Jamie Torborg in the DJ booth and Billy Steil "Mr. Central Minnesota Baseball" will sing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game." Last year's Central Regional runner up team that set the all-time SCSU win record with a 41-17 season will also be honored.
The deluxe dinner buffet at Coyote Moon will include many tasty treats such as Chef Carved Prime Rib, Butterfly Shrimp, Chicken Parmesan, BBQ Pork Ribs, Salad, Baby Red Potatoes, Monaco Blend Vegetables and Fresh Baked Rolls.
"We are looking forward to again having a great night celebrating the rich tradition of Husky Baseball. And for anyone that has heard Newmie guest speak and Dick MC... they know there will be quite a few laughs," said Pat Dolan. "Mary Ann Rindelaub and her banquet committee have done a great job putting this event together."
