St. Cloud State University left wing Dan Kronick, who produced six scoring points –including his first collegiate hat trick – while helping the Huskies to a two-game sweep over visiting Minnesota Duluth last weekend, has been named Red Baron WCHA Offensive Player of the Week for Jan. 23-29, 2006.
A 6-4, 215-pound junior from Inver Grove Heights, Minn., and a tranfer from UMD, Kronick scored four goals and set up two others for six points and had five shots on goal as the Huskies recorded their first WCHA sweep of the 2005-06 season and first since Nov. 12-13, 2004.
In a 4-2 victory over UMD last Friday (Jan. 16) night at the National Hockey Center, Kronick had an assist on a game-tying goal by teammate Konrad Reeder in the first period and then scored a go-ahead goal in the second.
He then came back on Saturday (Jan. 17) evening in SCSU’s 6-3 triumph over the Bulldogs to notch his first three-goal hat trick, scoring two power-play goals in the first period as the Huskies build a 4-0 lead and then adding his third of the night in the second period. In addition, he added a first period assist on Reeder’s goal.
In his first season with SCSU, Kronick now shows seven goals and six assists for 13 scoring points in 18 games played, ranking sixth among his teammates. Kronick leads the Huskies with four power play goals this season.
The Huskies, under first-year head coach Bob Motzko, are 12-9-3 overall (7-8-1 WCHA) and 6-1-1 over the last eight games. They next hit the road this Friday and Saturday for a WCHA series against North Dakota in Grand Forks.
Kronick is the son of Greg and Roxie Kronick of Inver Grove Heights. He is a 2002 graduate of Holy Angels Academy and a criminal justice major at SCSU. He is the third SCSU player this season to gain WCHA Player of the Week honors. Goalie Bobby Goepfert gained Defensive honors on Oct. 31 and forward John Swanson was Rookie of the Week on Jan. 9.
