Ryan Lasch of St. Cloud State University has been named the Red Baron® WCHA co-Offensive Player of the Week for Feb. 9 as a result of his outstanding efforts in league play last weekend.  He shared the honors with Eric Kattelus of Michigan Tech University.

SCSU’s Mike Lee also stepped into the spotlight by being named the WCHA’s Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 9.

Lasch, a 5-7, 175-pound senior right winger from Lake Forest, Calif., helped guide St. Cloud State to a 4-4 (ot) tie and 6-0 victory over Alaska Anchorage on Feb. 5-6 at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.

Lasch opened the weekend series with two goals and one assist in the tie against UAA last Friday, with his assist coming on teammate Ben Hanowski’s PPG that tied the game with 1/10th of a second left in regulation.

To finish the weekend, Lasch helped ignite the SCSU offense in a 6-0 win over the Seawolves on Feb. 6. He started the scoring with a PPG at 10:41 of the first period, which proved to be the game-winner, and then added assists on second and third period goals. In the series, Lasch notched three goals, three assists and six points, fired seven shots on target and was a +2.

Lasch leads the Huskies with 15 goals and 33 points this winter and now ranks third in the team charts with 167 career points (74g, 93a).

Lee backstopped the Huskies to a 6-0 shutout victory over league-rival Alaska Anchorage on Feb. 6.

A freshman from Roseau, Minn., Lee was a defensive catalyst as the host Huskies recorded their first shutout of the 2009-10 season and completed the weekend series with three points to move into a share of first place in the WCHA race.

Lee, a member of the USA’s gold medal-winning national junior team last month, made 33 saves – including 12 in the third period – on the way to his first collegiate shutout and First Star of the Game honors. His work in the nets also helped the Huskies post a 3-of-3 rate on the penalty-kill.

So far this season, Lee sports a 8-6-3 record for SCSU, with a 2.40 goals-against average and .923 saves percentage. He is averaging almost 29 saves per game this winter.

The Huskies are currently ranked #4 in the nation with a 18-8-4, 13-6-3 WCHA record this winter.  SCSU is tied for first place in the WCHA along with Minnesota Duluth, and the Huskies will return to conference play on Feb. 12-13, with a pair of home dates against North Dakota at the National Hockey Center.
