WRESTLING - Zach Stewart to Wrestle at SCSU

St. Cloud, Minn. - St. Cloud State University head wrestling coach Steve Costanzo today announced that Zach Stewart of Green Bay, Wis. plans to attend the University and wrestle for the Huskies beginning in the fall of 2009.
Stewart, out of Ashwaubenon High School, compiled a career mark of 156-26 at the high school level. As a senior, he went 41-4 at 130-pounds. He is a past WIAA State Tournament place winner, as he placed fifth in his sophomore season. This past month, Stewart claimed the Wisconsin State Freestyle championship. He is now a two-time Wisconsin State Freestyle champion. He is planning on pursuing a business or education major at SCSU.
“Zach is a great addition to the Husky wrestling program,” said Coach Steve Costanzo. “He has excellent scrambling ability, great mat sense and is one heck of a competitor. He will add fuel to the fire at our lower weights.”
Stewart will be joining Chris Brassell of Park Ridge, Ill., Jake Grisell of Mahtomedi, Jacob Kahnke of Prior Lake and Shane McQuade of Appleton, Wis. whom have all signed letters of intent to wrestle for the Huskies. They join Mic Berg of Simley, Trent Herold of St. Francis and Mark Maestrey of Toms River, N.J. as part of the incoming recruiting class. Berg, Herold and Maestrey signed NLI’s in November.
Jacob Horn of St. Michael, Mac Rivard of St. Francis and Brad Wollum of Canby will also be joining the Husky wrestling program for the 2009-10 season.
SCSU charted an 8-5 overall record in 2008-09, and the Huskies placed eighth in the nation at the 2009 NCAA Division II championships. A total of three SCSU wrestlers earned All-America status in 2008-09, and the Huskies advanced eighth wrestlers to the 2009 NCAA Division II championships this season. Costanzo will begin his fourth season at SCSU in 2009-10.
