WRESTLING: Four Falls Propel #11 St. Cloud State past Northern State 39-6

St. Cloud, Minn. – #11 St. Cloud State (4-3, 1-0 NSIC) rattled of eight straight victories to start the match, including four by fall, to record a 39-6 victory in its first NSIC dual over Northern State (3-4, 0-2 NSIC) Friday evening at Halenbeck Hall.
#8 Josh Williams (Banks, Ore.) got things started for the Huskies with a 16-6 major decision over Rick Schiley. Williams, Gabe Suarez (Las Vegas), Jake Roberts (Jordan), #8 John Sundgren (Blaine) and #8 Tad Merritt (Canby) all were solid as the first five matches did not see one second in which a Husky wrestler trailed.
Roberts, Sundgren, #3 Brad Padgett (Buckley, Wash.) and Luke Munkelwitz (Forest Lake) accounted for the four pins, with Sundgren picking up his 13th on the season: second best to Merritt.
Derek Skala (Owatonna) picked up the other Husky victory, coming back from a one-point, third period deficit to take a 9-6 decision over Donnie Bowden.
Pat LeVasseur (Buffalo Lake), took a tough loss in the final match of the evening at 125 lbs. LeVasseur was tied with Corbin Surat, when Surat recorded a takedown with 40 seconds remaining for the 4-2 victory.
The Huskies will be in action on Sunday, when they host Mary at 2:00 in Halenbeck Hall. The Wolves will wrestle next Saturday at Minnesota State.
Sunday, the Huskies will celebrate Alumni Day against Mary. All alumni present will be honored at intermission of the match.
