Marshall, Minn. -- The No. 15-ranked Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs blanked the St. Cloud State University volleyball team in three straight sets on Friday, Oct. 16, by scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-16.
In front of an announced crowd of 1209 in SMSU's PE Gymnasium, SCSU's Erica Beacom (Elkhorn, Neb.) led the offensive attack with nine kills on the evening and a team-high .333 hitting percentage.
Defensively for St. Cloud State, the back row was on fire, as three Huskies posted double digit numbers in digs. First year libero Sarah Madden (Van Meter, Iowa) led the way with 19 digs, while defensive specialists Chelsea Nagle (Preston) and Stephanie Coxon (Waukegan, Ill.) each chipped in with 11 digs respectively.
"Tonight is the best defense we've played all season," said SCSU's head coach Patricia Gerchy (Mickow). "Now if we can just connect on our offensive system and blocking we should be better prepared for tomorrow's match against Minnesota State."
