The Huskies, who celebrated Parents’ Day before the first serve, were led by junior team co-captain Kayla Tschida (Holdingford) with 15 kills (.213) and 12 digs, marking Tschida’s third double-double of the season. Tschida also chipped in a team-high three block assists. Right side hitter Erica Beacom (Elkhorn, Neb.) also had a stellar evening offensively, posting seven kills, two block assists and a team-high .500 hitting percentage.

Defensively, SCSU was led by rookie libero Sarah Madden (Van Meter, Iowa) with 14 digs, and sophomore defensive specialist Chelsea Nagle (Preston) was the third Husky in double digits in the back row with 11 digs.

In the first set, Bemidji State jumped out to a 7-1 lead and never looked back, holding the lead throughout the entire set. With their backs against the wall and trailing 4-10, St. Cloud State rattled off four straight points behind kills from Alecia Lunde (East Bethel), Lauren Cipperly (Andover) and Taylor Beebe (Verona, Wis.) to cut the BSU lead to 10-8. The rest of the match seemed to teeter-totter back and forth, but it was BSU’s setter Courtney Bitter charting the final kill of the set to give BSU the set win.

The second set of the match was well worth the price of admission for the announced crowd of 307 in Halenbeck Hall, as Bemidji State came out on top in the thrilling set, 32-30. Of note, the 30-point set tonight marked the highest amount of points scored in a set for the Huskies in 2009.

Trailing 19-23, St. Cloud State fought back to within one score, 22-23, cashing in on two BSU hitting errors and garnering another point on a Tschida kill. After yet another BSU attacking error, SCSU knotted the game at 23-23. Before the end of the set, there would be eight ties and eight lead changes. In end, it was BSU’s Brie Groskreutz charting a serving ace to give the Beavers the 2-0 set advantage heading into intermission. Of note, St. Cloud State did not miss a serve down the stretch, serving 100% in the second set.

Bemidji State controlled the third and final set, winning by a score of 25-20 to gain BSU's seventh victory of the season. The Huskies charted eight kills in the set, but were held to a .000 attacking percentage.

St. Cloud State (6-16, 2-8 NSIC) will hit the road next week with matches at nationally-ranked NSIC opponents in Southwest Minnesota State on Friday, Oct. 16 (7:00 pm) and Minnesota State on Saturday, Oct. 17 (4:00 pm).
