All-American Heptathlete Heather Miller |
San Angelo, Texas -- St. Cloud State junior Heather Miller (Sun Prairie, Wisc.) earned All-American honors in the heptathlon today at the NCAA Division II National Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Miller placed fifth in a very competitive field with 5165 points.
In today's events, Miller jumped 18-10.75 in the long jump for 777 points that moved her from eighth to fifth place where she stayed. Her mark in the long jump was a personal best outdoor mark for Miller.
She then threw the javelin a personal record 115'1" and added 573 points to her total. Miller ended the heptathlon with a PR 2:22.74 in the 800 meters.
Miller's overall total of 5165 points was the second highest score for an SCSU athlete in the event, behind the school record 5436 held by Jennifer Higgins since 2001.
"She's very happy," said head coach Seth Mischke about Miller's performance. "She threw the javelin really well. It was quite a battle with nine athletes scoring over 5000 points in the event. It was just a great point total for Heather."
Miller will compete in the triple jump beginning at 5:15 later today.
