San Angelo, Texas -- Several personal records highlighted the first day of the heptathlon for St. Cloud State University junior Heather Miller (Sun Prairie, Wisc.) at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships taking place at the LeGrand Sports Complex in San Angelo, Texas, today through Saturday. Miller is in eighth place after day one of the heptathlon with 3028 points.

Miller started the day with a personal record in the 100 meter hurdles as she raced to a 14.42 and 920 points. In the second event, the high jump, Miller reached another PR with a height of 5'3" and 736 points. She threw the shot put 33' 1/2" and gained 534 points. In the final event of the day, the 200 meter dash, Miller crossed the finish line in 25.54 and posting 838 points.

All in all, Miller finished the day with three personal records, including a PR in her first day heptathlon total with 3028 points. She nearly reached her PR in the other two events.

"It was a good day overall," said Miller. "I had my best time of the year in the hurdles and went two bars higher than ever before in the high jump. I felt good."

"We are in good shape," said head coach Seth Mischke. "It's a tight race among the top 12 competitors and we start out with good events tomorrow. We are excited."

Miller will continue her quest for All-American honors and a national championship Friday beginning at 11:00 a.m. She will compete in the long jump, javelin, and 800 meters to finish out the heptathlon competition. At 5:15 she will begin competition in the triple jump.
