TRACK & FIELD: Heather Miller and Nick Trisko Win Titles; Miller Named Field Athlete and High Point Performer at NSIC Championships

Wayne, Nebraska -- St. Cloud State junior Heather Miller (Sun Prairie, Wisc.) won NSIC Track and Field titles in the 100 meter hurdles and triple jump, and was named the Women's Field Athlete of the Year and High Point Performer at the Outdoor Championships held on the campus of Wayne State College. Sophomore Nick Trisko (Melrose) won his first NSIC title in the 100 meter dash for the Husky men. Both the men's and women's squads captured fifth place in the final standings.
Miller won a total of three titles in the outdoor championships as she brought home the NSIC heptathlon title on April 28. Today, Miller won the 100 meter hurdles in 14.71. She also won the triple jump with a school record mark of 39-11.25 and automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships. She broke the record of 39-6.50 previously held by Becky Anderson and set during the 1990 season. In addition to her two wins, Miller gained points in the 200 meter dash with a seventh place finish in 26.23. She also ran a leg on the fourth place 4x100 relay and the fifth place 4x400 relay. Miller has won a total of six NSIC titles this year as she won three indoor titles, including the pentathlon, triple jump, and 55-meter hurdles.
Trisko won the men's 100 meter dash in a time of 11.03. He also gained points for the team with a third place finish in the 200 meter dash in a time of 22.28, and ran a leg of the 4x100 relay that finished second in 41.27 and met the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. The 4x100 relay included junior Gabe Udia (Inver Grove Heights), Trisko, junior Marcus Jenkins (Long Branch, NJ) and senior Michael Graham (Oakdale). He also ran a leg of the sixth place 4x400 relay.
The St. Cloud State women tallied 82 points and the University of Minnesota Duluth was the team champion with 156 points. The Husky men garnered 70 points and Minnesota State University won the team title with 193 points.
Other highlights for the women include a pair of third place finishes for sophomore Kelsey King (Lakeville). King placed third in the 100 meter hurdles in 14.92 and third in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:03.71. She also ran a leg of the 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay.
First year Brittney Moffatt (Coon Rapids) placed fourth in the 1500 meter run in 4:51.44. Sophomore Rebecca Kitzman (Verona, Wisc.) gained points in the shot put with an eighth place and a throw of 42-11. The 4x100 relay placed fourth in 48.96, and included seniors Mikha Tan (Sioux City, Iowa) and Amber Schueler (Glencoe), King and Miller. The 4x400 relay finished fifth in 4:00.03, and included Miller, Schueler, sophomore Cheryl Hundt (Bangor, Wisc.), and King.
The men's highlights included a second place finish in 22.28 for Udia in the 200 meters and a third place finish in the 100 meter dash in 11.09. Sophomore Dan Allen (Waite Park) captured third in the 1500 meter run in a time of 3:58.96. He also placed sixth in the 5000 meters in a time of 15:34.39. Jenkins placed sixth in the 110 hurdles in 15.95 and sophomore Jeremy Davis (Champlin Park) was eighth in 16.10. Davis also captured points in the 400 meter hurdles with a seventh place finish in 57.17. The 4x400 relay of sophomore Chris Lefler (Foley), Trisko, first year Luke Windholz (South St. Paul), and junior David Queck (Annandale) placed sixth in 3:24.73.
Miller has automatically qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the heptathlon and triple jump and is a provisional qualifier in the long jump. Udia is a provisional qualifier in the men's 100 meter dash, and the men's 4x100 is a provisional qualifier. The NCAA Championships will be May 21-23 in San Angelo, Texas.
