Heather Miller leads the heptathlon

  


Aberdeen, SD -- St. Cloud State junior Heather Miller (Sun Prairie, WI) leads the heptathlon field after the first day of the NSIC Multi Championship being contested at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. Miller has 2897 points through four events. Junior Cris Jirele (Medford) is in eighth place in the decathlon with 3032 points after five events. Zac Preble of Bemidji State is the men's leader in the decathlon with 3597 points. 

Miller, the 2009 NSIC indoor pentathlon champion ran the 100 meter hurdles in 14.72 to finish first. She hit 5'1" in the high jump and tied for sixth place, was third in the shot put with a throw of 32'1" and won the 200 meter dash in 25.68. Miller's closest competitor is Traci Pottinger of the University of Minnesota Duluth who is in second place with 2701 points. 

St. Cloud State sophomore Kelsey King (Lakeville) is in tenth place in the heptathlon with 2407 points. She was sixth in the 100 meter hurdles in 15.85, 13th in the high jump at 4'7", tenth in the shot put with a throw of 26'9 3/4", and third in the 200 meters in a time of 26.52.  

In today's decathlon events, Jirele was ninth in the 100 meter dash in 11.78, fourth in the long jump at 30'9 3/4", eighth in the shot put at 35'1 3/4", ninth in the high jump with a height of 5'7", and ninth in the 400 meter dash in 54.87. 

First year Dusty McColley (Franklin) is in ninth place in the decathlon with 3027 points, junior Andrew Stueck (Madison, WI) is tenth with 3022 points and first year Nick Nellis (Waupaca, WI) is in 15th place with 2513 points.

McColley ran the 100 meter dash in 12.23, had a long jump mark of 20'10 1/2", threw the shot 33'6 3/4", had the best height in the high jump at 6'3 1/4", and ran the 400 meter dash in 56.69.

Stueck ran the 100 meters in 11.72, went 19'1 1/4" in the long jump, had a throw of 39'9 3/4" in the shot put, went 5'8" in the high jump, and ran the 400 in 44.38.

Nellis had marks of 12.37 in the 100 meters, 18'2 1/4" in the long jump, 36' in the shot put, 5'3 1/4" in the high jump, and ran 59.60 in the 400 meters.

The decathlon will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, followed by the heptathlon at 9:30 a.m.
