NSIC Championship: W-3rd; M-9th (after day one)
TRACK & FIELD: Women Third, Men Ninth After First Day of NSIC Championships

Wayne, Nebraska -- The St. Cloud State women's track and field team is in third place the men's squad in ninth place after the first day of the 2009 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Track and Field Championship hosted by Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb.
Through seven events, the St. Cloud State women garnered 33 points and trail first place Minnesota Duluth with 49 points and second place Minnesota State with 34.50 points.
Top point getters for the St. Cloud State women today were junior Heather Miller (Sun Prairie, Wisc.) as she placed third in the long jump with a mark of 18-07.25. Senior Mikha Tan (Sioux City, Iowa) added points with a fifth place finish in the long jump with a mark of 17-10.75. First year Nish Rubash (New Lisbon, Wisc.) and sophomore Danielle Luhmann (Rushford) tallied points in the high jump as Rubash placed fourth and Luhmann fifth at the same height of 5-01.75. First year Keely Rubash (New Lisbon, Wisc.) garnered points in the pole vault with her eighth place finish at a height of 10-10.75.
Other finishers for the Huskies included a ninth place finish for senior Amber Schueler (Glencoe) in the long jump at 17-04.25 and a 20th place for sophomore Kelsey King (Lakeville) in the javelin with a throw of 89-04. Sophomores Rebecca Kitzman (Verona, Wisc.) and Lindsay Conroy (Clearwater) placed 19th and 23rd, respectively in the hammer throw. Kitzman had a mark of 128-10 and Conroy marked a 122-08.
In preliminary races today, Miller advanced to Saturday's finals in the 100 meter hurdles and 200 meter dash. King will run the finals in the 100 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles. First year Brittney Moffatt (Coon Rapids) and sophomore Paula Marozas (Rochester) advanced to the 1500 meter finals.
To be noted; Miller met NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the hurdles (14.52) and long jump today.
On the men's side, first year Dusty McColley (Franklin) gained points in the high jump with a third place leap of 6-05.50. Junior Andrew Stueck (Madison, Wisc.) placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 160-02 to add to the Huskies point total.
Several athletes advanced to tomorrow's finals as junior Gabe Udia (Inver Grove Heights) and sophomore Nick Trisko (Melrose) will run the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash on Saturday. Junior Marcus Jenkins (Long Branch, NJ) and sophomore Jeremy Davis (Champlin Park) advance in the 110 meter hurdles and Davis also gained a spot in the 400 meter hurdles finals. Sophomore Dan Allen (Waite Park) will run the 1500 meters and first year Kevin Andresen (Crystal) the 800 meters in tomorrow's finals.
Other Husky competitors who placed in events today included Hady Cherif (9th, 10000 meters, 33:40.65), Luke Jordan (15, 10000 meters, 36:28.01), Christian Berg (19, hammer, 127-00), McColley (10, javelin, 144-03 and 9, long jump, 21-08.00), Nick Nellis (11, javelin, 141-00), Cris Jirele (16, long jump, 19-11.75), Stueck (17, long jump, 19-09.00), William Brenny (10, pole vault, 14-07.25), and Andrew Fuller (11, pole vault, 14-01.25).
Minnesota State University is the team leader for the men with 53 points and the Huskies are in ninth with 13 points through seven events.
The Championships continue on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m. with the field events followed by the track events at 1:00 p.m.
