TENNIS: Huskies Ranked 49th in Latest ITA Poll

The St. Cloud State University women's tennis team (26-8) cracked the top 50 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division II poll, with a 49th place ranking in the latest poll released on May 5. BYU-Hawaii was ranked first in the Division II poll this week, and the Huskies were the lone team from the NSIC to gain a top 50 national ranking.
The SCSU women's team was ranked first in the latest ITA Division II Central Region poll on May 5. SCSU led the poll followed by Mesa State (2nd), Nebraska-Kearney (3rd), Minnesota State Mankato (4th), Metro State (5th), Winona State (6th), Southwest Minnesota State (7th), Augustana (8th), Upper Iowa (9th) and Western New Mexico (10th).
SCSU junior Jacquelyn Doll (Staples-Motley H.S.) was ranked second in the ITA's Division II Central Region poll for singles play, while teammate junior Dawn Olsen (Rosemount/Eastview) was ranked 14th in the singles poll. In doubles play, Doll and partner Kelly Freese (St. Cloud/Cathedral H.S.) were ranked second in the ITA Division II Central Region doubles poll on May 5.
The SCSU women's and men's teams will be hosting the first/second rounds of the 2009 NCAA Division II Central Regional tournament on May 8-9. The matches will be held at nearby Sartell High School in Sartell, Minn. To open play on May 8, the Western New Mexico men's team will play Minnesota State Mankato at 10 a.m. Later that day, the Montana State-Billings women's team will also play the Minnesota State women's team at 1 p.m.
The winners of the two matches on May 8, will then advance to play St. Cloud State University on May 9. The men's teams will play at 10 a.m., while the women's teams will play their match at 1 p.m. The winners of the matches on May 9, will then advance to the 2009 NCAA Division II finals, which will take place in Altamonte Springs, Fla. on May 13-16.
Of note, the SCSU men's team was ranked second in the most recent ITA Division II Central Region poll behind top ranked Metro State (Colo.).
