TENNIS: SCSU Women's Tennis to Host NCAA Regional

The St. Cloud State University women's tennis team will host NCAA Division II Central Regional matches on May 8-9.
Here is a rundown of the Central Regional schedule at SCSU:
Friday, May 8
1 p.m. - Montana State-Billings vs. Minnesota State Mankato
Saturday, May 0
1 p.m. - Winner of May 8 match vs. St. Cloud State University
Of note, the site of the regional matches is still being determined. So please check back for the latest tournament site information.
The SCSU women's team (26-8) will be the top seed in the regional, as the Huskies will play the winner of the first round match against Montana State-Billings (9-2) and Minnesota State Mankato (12-9) in the single-elimination team tournament. Montana State-Billings and MSU will square off on the first day of regional play. Of note, the Huskies have defeated Minnesota State Mankato three times this season in dual match action and they also defeated Montana State-Billings earlier this year by a 5-4 tally.
The winner of the regional title match will then advance to the 16-team NCAA Division II women's tennis finals in Altamonte Springs, Fla. on May 13-16. The finals are hosted by Rollins College and the Central Florida Sports Commission.
The championships consist of a 16-team single elimination tournament. Each of the following eight regions will conduct two preliminary-round tournaments: Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West. The selection of teams for the championships is based on prescribed criteria listed in the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Tennis Championships Handbook and approved by the NCAA Division II Championships Committee.
This marks the Huskies' fifth trip to the NCAA Division II tournament. SCSU has advanced to the NCAA tournament in 2005, 2004, 2003 and 1995.
