TENNIS: SCSU Men's Tennis to Host Regional

SCSU will host the 2009 NCAA Division II Central Regional on May 8-9 |
The St. Cloud State University men's tennis will host NCAA Division II Central Regional matches on May 8-9.
Here is a rundown of the Central Regional schedule at SCSU:
Friday, May 8
10 a.m. - Western New Mexico vs. Minnesota State Mankato
Saturday, May 0
10 a.m. - Winner of May 8 match vs. St. Cloud State University
The site of the matches is still be being determined, so please check back for the latest information.
The SCSU men's team (25-2) will be the top seed in the regional, as the Huskies will play the winner of the first round match against Western New Mexico (13-11) and Minnesota State Mankato (6-9) in the single-elimination team tournament. Western New Mexico and MSU will square off on the first day of regional play.
The winner of the regional title match will then advance to the 16-team NCAA Division II men's tennis finals in Altamonte Springs, Fla. on May 13-16. The finals are hosted by Rollins College and the Central Florida Sports Commission.
The championships consist of a 16-team single elimination tournament. Each of the following eight regions will conduct two preliminary-round tournaments: Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West. The selection of teams for the championships is based on prescribed criteria listed in the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Tennis Championships Handbook and approved by the NCAA Division II Championships Committee.
In the final of the 2008 championships, Armstrong Atlantic State University defeated Barry, 5-0.
This marks the Huskies' ninth consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II tournament. The last time the Huskies hosted regional play in the NCAA tournament was in 2005.
