WOMEN'S TENNIS: SCSU Gains Two Wins at NSIC Tournament

Minneapolis, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University women's tennis team (25-8) advanced to the championship match of the 2009 NSIC women's tennis team tournament with a pair of first day dual match victories in Minneapolis, Minn.
 
In action at the Baseline Tennis Club, which is located on the campus of the University of Minnesota, the Huskies posted a pair of 5-0 victories over Bemidji State and Winona State on April 25 to gain a ticket to the championship match against Minnesota State Mankato on April 26 at 12:30 p.m.
 
In the opening bout against Bemidji State, the Huskies gained doubles wins from Jacquelyn Doll and Kelly Freese at first doubles, while Dawn Olsen and Kristie Eull won 8-2 at second doubles.  In third doubles play, Kayla Lenz and Tanya Halloran won 8-2.  At third singles, Kelly Freese won a 6-1, 6-0 decision and Lenz added a 6-1, 6-0 victory.  The remaining singles positions did not finish their matches before the Huskies had a winning margin in the dual match.
 
In the second round, the Huskies gained the win over Winona State.  Doll and Freese posted an 8-6 win at first doubles, while Olsen and Eull also carded an 8-6 win at second doubles.  Lenz and Halloran completed the duo sweep with an 8-0 win at third doubles.  In singles action, Lenz scored a 6-1, 6-1 win at fourth singles and Eull won 6-2, 6-2 at fifth singles.  The remaining singles positions did not finish their matches before the Huskies secured their win over the Warriors.
 
The victories pushed the Huskies' overall record to 25-8 on the 2009 season.
