SWIMMING & DIVING: St. Cloud State Splits With Gustavus In Dual Meet

SCSU's Cassi Mrozek placed first on the one-meter with 253.70 points.

St. Peter, Minn. -- The St. Cloud State men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to St. Peter, Minn., on Saturday, Nov. 7, for a dual meet against Gustavus Adolphus College. The Husky women dominated the meet, posting a 210-90 win over the Gusties. The St. Cloud State men were edged by GAC, 146-150.

The St. Cloud State women garnered 13 victories en route to their convincing 210-90 win over the Gusties. Senior Katie Brueggemann (Grafton, Wis.) was just three tenths of a point shy of a national qualifying B-cut mark on the 100 breast, finishing in first place with a time of 1:07.75.

SCSU diving was the spotlight for the afternoon, as the Huskies swept both boards in the men’s and women’s competition. On the one-meter, Cassi Mrozek (Inver Grove Heights) charted 253.70 points for the first place honor while teammate Allison Tracy (Minot, N.D.) fell less than two points shy of a national qualifying mark on the three-meter, placing first with 263.18 points.

The Husky men’s diving squad was let yet again by rookie Luke Weber (Mankato), who swept both boards with national qualifying marks on the one-meter (312.35) and the three-meter (321.25) board.

St. Cloud State’s men’s swim team posted three first place finishes on the day. Zac Hanson (Holmen, Wis.) cruised to a first place mark in the 50 free with a time of :22.32. Sophomore Robb Rotramel (Ramsey) touched the wall at :49.64 for top honors in the 100 free.

The men’s 400 free relay ended the day on a high note for the Huskies, placing first in a time of 3:16.74. Kyle Cordry (Las Cruces, N.M.) swam the first leg, Jake Hausauer (Minnetonka) swam the second, Rotramel swam the third leg and John Rosier (Biwabik) brought up the rear for the victory.

The Huskies will continue action on the road, as St. Cloud State heads to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13-14, for a dual meet with the Division I Phoenix.
